Solver Information
The Solver tool allows you to see how the Solver bot will solve any historic game using the starter of your choice.
Just enter the game number and starter (first guess) and hit submit.
Solver returns the guesses it has chosen to solve the game along with the completed game grid.
You can see the state of the game board after any guess by clicking on the 👁️ symbol next to the guess.
How Solver works
Although Solver knows the solution to each game it is solving, it uses that information for just two things:
1. | Knowing when it has finished solving. |
2. | Determining the tile colours resulting from each guess. |
Starting with your starter word, Solver works out the green and yellow tiles.
Next, it works out the remaining words for each across and down word using those tiles.
It then refines those lists further using the word list smasher described here.
In the next step, Solver evaluates all 12,232 words that Squareword allows for guesses in order to find the best word to use for the next guess.
It prioritises:
• | Words that solve the highest number of words. |
• | Words that match letters in the highest number of columns. |
• | Words that match the highest number of letters. |
Solver then applies the best guess and repeats the process of evaluating the tiles, smashing the lists and picking the best guess.
It does this repeatedly until the game is complete.
